Shiraz is part of our traditional range of wines. For 30 years we at Hastwell & Lightfoot have been growing a patchwork of Shiraz blocks, with different clones, rootstocks and ages. Each one is harvested fermented and aged separately, maximising the blending options available and allowing the creating of balance in the final wine.
The wine displays the long and generous flavours that blending brings. Its a basket of berries, backed by spicy oak and tannins that have the texture of suede.
Lemon and garlic lamb cutlets with feta dip would add to the enjoyment.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
94 POINTS EXCELLENT “…Currants, blackberries, a hit of raspberry jam, red cherries, an earthiness and an inherent spiciness that adds to the overall aroma profile beautifully. The fruit is well balanced yet brooding and enticing. Moreish at that. Medium to long in finish, it is a foodies red wine and perfect with Winter cuisine. A good solid firm cheese would allow it also to shine as a stand alone Shiraz. Try it with Italian sausage and gorgonzola pizza.” PaulIppolito.com.au
91 POINTS “This ticks all the boxes. Warm and satisfying. Full weighted. Fruitcake spice, salami and kirsch echo along structural bones of maritime freshness and well appointed bourbon vanillin oak.” Wine Companion, Ned Goodwin
“…immense richness of flavour, together with quite soft tannins.” PS NEWS, John Rozentals, Aug 2019
“91 POINTS …concentrated fruit characters on the nose and palate, notably red and dark berry characters with spice and licorice and fine tannins. Enjoy over the next five years with barbecued steak or gourmet beef sausages.” COURIER MAIL, Mike Frost, Aug 2019
“I love the last line on the back label – wines made for eating. Yes! There’s plenty to sink your teeth into here too. Dark and brooding all the way, it’s just a rock-solid wine. It hustles and bustles away with a firm presence in the mouth leaving a spicy peppery and grippy finish. Chewy tannins sap moisture from the mouth. Casual barbecue wine for sure. Drink now to six years+” QWINE, July 2019
“…Pepper, mocha, spice, and vanilla high notes deliver a fulsome palate-pleasing journey This well-massaged 2017 Shiraz is eminently quaffable now and will continue to be enjoyable for a few years yet.” THE GRAPE HUNTER, July 2019
“Dark-ish fruits stood out for me, with nice peppery characters and good fruit weight that would keep punters going back for more. It has length too even if it does finish a bit dry. Osso Bucco and this shiraz would make perfect midweek meal partners… more” WORDS FROM A WINEGLASS, July 2019
