Description
Fiano is part of our Mediterranean collection.
We started the planting in 2000 and now have 6 varieties with their origins in Italy or Spain. They are varieties well-suited to the growing conditions of McLaren Vale and deliver the bright fruit flavours of the Southern European climate.
This is a bright, fresh wine combining the warmth of stone fruit with the zip of lemon zest or grapefruit. Herbs and hazelnut are also there to be found. When it comes to food, nothing could be better than pan fried wild barramundi as a partner.
Fiano (fee-ah-noh) is from the Avellino hills region east of Napoli. It thrives is warm dry conditions typical of McLaren Vale. Its style is in between a Semillion and Viognier and is the next hit white variety in Australia. Fiano is extremely attractive to bees and is often described as ‘the vine beloved of bees’.

GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE Selected this wine as a “Top 100 New Release Wines” in April/May 2019.
It was awarded 92/100 and 4 stars.
Tasting Notes Included the following:
The bouquet opens up with freshness and the savoury scent of freshly laundered linen. It’s lean, taut and nervy, with a dryness that borders on austerity. There’s a hint of nectarine. Its well focused on the mid-palate and has intensity and length. Good drinking now or in the next five years.

I see why this wine was named the best Fiano in Australia! In two separate blind Fiano tastings I attended with friends, this Fiano received #1 rank amongst a sea of well-known Australian heavy-weights (including Penfolds). H&L Fiano is currently my favorite white wine to drink. I always try to have a bottle of it on hand to share as all my white wine drinking friends seem to fall in love with it, too.
