Description

Montepulciano is one of the wines of our Mediterranean collection. This variety originated in the Abruzzo region of central and Southern Italy. If you enjoy Australian Shiraz, then this a variety worth seeking.

We started the planting in 2000 and now have 6 varieties with their origins in Italy or Spain. They are varieties well-suited to the growing conditions of McLaren Vale and deliver the more rounded flavours of the Southern European climate. Great depth of colour comes first, then the aromas and flavours of red plums, boysenberries and oregano type spices, balanced with good acidity and firm tannins.

A true Italian style suiting foods like Beef Bolognese, a platter of cheese and spicy sausage and of course the ultimate, pizza.

Reviews

  1. John Lewis, Newcastle Herald

… cherry red hues and forest floor aromas. Zingy mulberry flavour shows on the front palate, briar, plum, capers and subtle vanillin oak meld on the middle palate and the finish has gamey tannins.

  2. QWine Reviews

Dark in appearance with mulberries and blueberries plus unmistakable oregano. Powdery and mouth sapping tannins call for plates of Bolognese and ragu. Yep, it’s made for eating.
    90/100 Points from QWineReviews .com

  3. Patrick Eckel, The Wine Reviewer

An earthen note to blackberry and plum is joined by charcuterie and cedar oak nuance on the nose. The palate has base notes of dark berry fruits and a creaminess of milk chocolate before drying tannins with a touch of bay leaf take hold; dark cherry lingers with a drying, savoury texture. Very good value.
